HOT SPOTS HAWAII is an unique continuing medical education program that blends clinical and therapeutic updates while allowing time for reflection and introspection. The program will be held at the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's North Shore. Doug Johnson has negotiated a favorable rate. Hot Spots is designed to allow attendees to consider aspects of our personal and professional lives not typically included in traditional continuing education. Leave your cell phones, pagers and problems behind and use this your time at Turtle Bay to think about your own needs without the pressing demands of caring for others. We hope you can join us and promise you will have a rewarding and memorable experience. Doug Johnson has organized memorable social functions for you and your guests.

CME CREDIT
We have elected to GO BARE! Obtaining CME credit is an onerous and meretricious process that is controlled by a greedy mafia-like cartel. The granting of Category I Credit is a money making venture for organizations that know nothing about education, nor do they care. We recognize that some will not want to attend without this credit. So be it. If you do elect to join us, this will be a superb and memorable program. Instead of boring CME Credit, you will receive CMI points (Continuous Medical Inspiration!).

Tax Deductible Status:
For an educational course to be deductible the course only needs some form of certification, which The Kauai Foundation will supply. The general requirements that qualify for tax deductible status are that the education course:
1. Is required by an employer or the law to keep a present salary, status, or job; or
2. Maintains or improves skills required for present work.
3. All registrants will receive a certificate of attendance.

You will find that Hot Spots 2012 meets the standards of # 2 perfectly.

We have held Hot Spots in Dermatology since 1987. It is a small, intimate meeting at which the faculty and registrants have time to interact as colleagues rather than in a strictly didactic manner. We provide Continuous Medical Inspiration (CMI) credits, in the expectation that people who come to this program are self-starters, not pawns for organizations or licensing boards that play into the business of continuing education. Hot Spots is not a business; but a gathering of people that like Chaucer's student who "would gladly lerne and gladly teche." If you a slavishly collector of CME credit, this program is not for you. If you desire collegial interchange and continuing inspiration, please join us!

We will post all of the handouts that our faculty provides. Since Blogger does not handle PDFs well, we will link them those to Google Docs. Only faculty and attendees will be able to access the Case Reports. In the past, one returns from a conference with all kinds of paper handouts. Personally, I almost never, or rarely ever, access them. This experiment, will put the Hot Spots handouts at your fingertips. Not Just About Sunlight Anymore.
    The ongoing molecular classification of melanoma and its role in the process of melanomageneis clearly indicates profound differences in the molecular signatures of acral, mucosal, eye, and cutaneous melanomas(two or more types). These observations have profound implications for understanding the etiology and pathogenesis of melanoma and at least one radical proposal for etiology will be discussed. In the future approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment will be altered by our recognition that ”it’s not just about ultraviolet radiation anymore”

Also be advised, if this block has sold out, your reservations will be in the regular pool of available rooms on a first-come first-serve basis. Held since 1987, Hot Spots is an opportunity to gather with like-minded practitioners for a long weekend of personal and professional enrichment. The 2010 program will be held on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The main themes are melanoma, dermoscopy, learning through case presentations, Medical Informatics Update, and the art of medicine. Dermatologists, primary care providers, and other sentient health care professionals will find find this to be a memorable, worthwhile conference.
